Arrears due to the use of real estate by individuals and companies have increased by more than a quarter since the beginning of the pandemic, to PLN 183 million, according to data from the BIG InfoMonitor Debtors Register. The most unpaid charges are in the province. Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship.
The vast majority of the amount of over PLN 183 million in rent arrears accumulated at the end of September in the BIG InfoMonitor Debtors Register concerns natural persons, with the liabilities of companies representing 10%. In total, the BIG InfoMonitor database does not pay for housing and commercial premises, there are 8,312 entities, including 7,856 people. From the beginning of the pandemic, i.e. from March 2020, these liabilities increased by PLN 39 million, but the number of debtors slightly decreased – by 63 entities. There is no question of a constant downward trend, as the number of debtors is still fluctuating, according to BIG InfoMonitor.
According to a study carried out by Quality Watch at the request of the Register of Debtors BIG InfoMonitor, in the event of financial problems, Poles would first delay fees for cable television subscription (32%), telephone and internet charges (24%), then fines for driving without tickets (23%), utilities (20%) and finally rent bills (17%). The inclination to not pay the rent is more often shown by women (19% vs. 14% of men). This is confirmed by the data collected in the BIG InfoMonitor Debtors Register. , where rent debtors account for 53% of all non-paying for premises and this is unusual, because generally there are definitely more men in the register.
The study also shows that this problem more often affects people aged 55-64 (23%) and older (20%), as well as people living in large cities (from 100,000 to 500,000 inhabitants) – 25%. 40% of respondents who delay or fail to pay their rent say that they do so because they do not have enough money, even for the most urgent needs.
In the database of the BIG InfoMonitor Debtors Register, cooperatives, housing communities, as well as municipal real estate managers in the following voivodships: Kujawsko-Pomorskie (PLN 82.3 million), Mazowieckie (PLN 36.8 million) and Warmińsko-Mazurskie (18 PLN, 1 million). The largest number of people who do not pay for rent is in Kujawy and Pomerania – 3,417 people, then in Mazowsze – 1,174 and in Łódź – 1,025, also indicated.
