Repairs, at last, for M3 metro in Budapest

2 July 2014

Budapest is finally going to get around around to reconstruction work on its crucial M3 metro line. The entire line is to be upgraded, according to Budapest Business Journal, along with its extension to the north. Whether or not work gets underway this year depends on how soon the Budapest Transit Center signs the design contract, but this could come as soon as next week. No improvements to the line have been made in the past 35 years, despite the demands placed upon it by 540,000 daily passengers. The BBJ points out that this is more than the country’s entire rail network handles. Technical problems are now beginning to cause serious concerns over the line’s operations and safety.
