Residential building permits in Bulgaria decrease by 4 percent in Q4 2020 compared to Q4 2019

In the fourth quarter of 2020, the municipal authorities issued building permits for construction of 1 451 residential buildings with 9 779 dwellings, of 14 administrative buildings/offices with and 1 005 other buildings with 515 431, according to National Statistical Institute of Bulgaria.

As compared to the previous quarter the issued building permits for residential buildings fell by 14.4 percent, but their dwellings rose by 31.9 percent and their gross building area – by 18.5 percent. The issued building permits of administrative buildings and of other buildings dropped by 50.0 percent and 10.3 percent respectively. At the same time the gross building area of administrative buildings fell by 40.1 percent, while of other buildings increased by 2.1 percent.

As compared to the fourth quarter of 2019 the issued building permits for new residential buildings decreased by 4.0 percent, while their dwellings rose by 30.8 percent and the gross building area – by 27.5 percent. The number of issued building permits of administrative buildings declined by 33.3 percent, but their gross building area growth by 34.4 percent. The issued building permits for other buildings fell by 8.9 percent and their gross building area – by 15.6 percent.
