Parliamentary candidates will not be allowed to hand out food, drinks or money during their campaigns, Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta announced. Campaigning officially kicks off this week, and elections will be held Dec. 9.
The government issued the campaign restrictions through an emergency ordinance. Any candidate found breaking these rules will face sanctions.
Candidates will, however, be allowed to hand out things like pens, lighters, posters and caps, but they must be labeled with the name of the candidate or the party. These clearly labeled objects must not exceed RON 10 in value, according to the government’s edit.
