Retail sales at constant prices down by 22.9% in April

Retail sales at constant prices in Poland fell 22.9 percent y-o-y in April, according to data published by the Central Statistical Office (GUS). Compared with March, retail sales in April decreased by 12.3 percent. Between January and April, retail sales decreased 5.8 percent y-o-y. The drop in retail sales in April was significantly caused by restrictions introduced due to Covid-19. In April 2020 compared to the corresponding period of 2019, retail sales at constant prices decreased in all groups. Among the groups with a significant share in total retail sales, a substantial decrease in sales was reported by enterprises trading in motor vehicles and motorcycles parts by 54.4 percent and sellers of solid, liquid and gaseous fuels by 32.9 percent, according to GUS.
