Poland’s retail sales at constant prices increased 3 percent y-o-y in July. Compared with June, retail sales increased by 6.5 percent, according to data published by the Central Statistical Office (GUS). Between January and July, retail sales decreased 3.9 percent y-o-y, against a growth of 6 percent in 2019. In July 2020, the largest increase in retail sales compared to the corresponding period of 2019 was observed in enterprises selling furniture, radio, TV and household appliances (by 15.8 percent against a growth of 15.9 percent the year before). Sales were also up in textiles, clothing and footwear by 5.3 percent, newspapers and books by 2.3 percent as well as motor vehicles and motorcycles by 0.7 percent. A drop in sales, however, was reported by units trading in solid, liquid and gaseous fuels by 2.8 percent as well as in food, beverages and tobacco products by 1 percent. Sales of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and orthopedic equipment remained unchanged, according to GUS.
