In the first two months of 2012, Romania’s retail turnover increased almost 5 percent, compared to the same period of last year.
According to data from the National Statistics Institute (INS), the increased spending cam on car fuel, which rose 11.7 percent, as well as in food and beverages, and tobacco consumption (5.2 percent up).
Non-food food sales rose 1.8 percent. Sales fell, however, month-on-month thanks to a 5.2 percent slip in non-food products. This included car fuel sales, which fell 4.9 percent in February, compared to January.
