Road building drives Slovak construction rebound

27 July 2015

Having bottomed out, construction output in Slovakia is now recovering at a fast pace, with a record volume of investment being recorded in June. The lion’s share of the work was completed in road construction, with €75.5m being built, outstripping the previous record of €60m from last October. Slovakia’s statistics office said that construction output rose 4 percent in May, but that this was a 15 percent jump from the year before, marking the biggest increase since 2008. The country’s budget for 2016 calls for €427m to be invested in infrastructure. Around 120 km of new sections of highways are currently under construction across Slovakia, a third of which should be be operational by the year’s end.
