Romania: 7,594 companies suspended their activity in the first 4 months of the year

The number of companies that suspended their activity in the first four months of 2024 was 7,594, up by over 38 percent compared to the same period last year, according to data published by the National Office of the Trade Register.

The most companies that suspended their activity were from Bucharest, respectively 927 (number increasing by 28.75 percent compared to January-April 2023), the capital being followed by Cluj, with 427 suspended companies (increasing by 33.86 percent), Brasov – 349 (plus 37.94 percent), Iasi – 332 (plus 57.35 percent) and Timiş – 320 (plus 60 percent).

At the opposite pole, the fewest suspensions were recorded in the counties of Covasna – 48 (up by 23.08 percent compared to the first 4 months of 2023), Ialomiţa – 49 (plus 11.36 percent), Gorj – 52 (plus 26 .83 percent), Teleorman – 62 (plus 8.77 percent) and Giurgiu – 64 (plus 82.86 percent).

In April 2024, there were 1,580 suspensions of companies, the highest number being recorded in Bucharest (205) and the counties of Cluj (94), Braşov (81), Bihor (76) and Iasi (64).
