Romania could find itself with an excess of electricity producing capacity by 2020 and 2025 period, Romania may face with an overcapacity of electricity generation, according to a study of the national energy sector.
The study was done by Anton Vladescu, representative of the National Romanian Council of the World Energy Council, and by Valeriu Binig, energy program manager with Deloitte.
The national energy system consists of energy groups that have a capacity of about 20,000 installed MW, of which units of about 16,000 MW are operational. The companies with the largest installed capacities are Hidroelectrica, Nuclearelectrica and the Oltenia energy complexes.
The national investment plan provides that until 2020, €6.72bn is needed in investments in the energy sector. Of this total, companies controlled by the Ministry of Economy should invest over €4.35bn.
