Andreas Von Mettenheim, the German ambassador, and Philippe Gustin, the French ambassador, said Romania needs to improve its justice reform measures and step up its fight against corruption before the country will be accepted into Europe’s Schengen zone. The diplomats also said Romania needs to upgrade its border control.
Romania’s accession into the Schengen zone is expected to take place in two phases, starting with its airports and ports and then its land borders, according to the German ambassador.
