Romania’s exports fell by 2.5% in February to EUR 5.8 billion

13 April 2021

Romania’s exports were EUR 5.8 billion in February 2021, down 2.5 percent compared to the same month in 2020, while imports of goods were EUR 7 billion, up 6,1 percent. As a result, Romania’s trade deficit in goods deepened by 17 percent to EUR 1.9 billion in February 2021, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

“The deficit has been going on for a long time and the pandemic has accentuated the trend, because exports depend on the way foreign markets run. The European market suffered from the pandemic crisis, some markets were not so favorable, and our industry and exports are very dependent on the car industry, which in 2020 had a very weak year ” says Aurelian Dochia, professor of economics and economic analyst.
