Romania’s unemployment hits 7.7%

Unemployment in Romania rose to 7.7% in 2011 Q4, a 0.5% rise from Q3.
The National Institute for Statistics (INS) said that the employment rate for 15 – 64 year-olds fell 1.2% in the last quarter to 57.9% compared to Q3.
Men fared better than did women by a margin of 64.8% to 51.1%, though the difference between living in cities was only slightly higher than those in rural regions (58.2% to 57.8%).
The INS reported that young people (aged 15 – 24) is a paltry 23.1%.
