This year, 37 Romanian companies were included in the Deloitte Central Europe Top 500, placing the country fifth in the region. Last year, 38 Romanian companies made the cut. Romania’s largest companies pulled in almost €39.6bn in combined revenue by the end of 2011, compared to €37.49bn in 2010.
Deloitte Central Europe Top 500, now in its sixth year, is carried out in 18 countries every year and ranks companies based on sales revenue from the previous year.
The top Romanian companies continue to come from the the energy and resources sector, which includes 13 companies this year, followed by consumer business and transportation (11 companies), manufacturing (seven companies), technology, media and telecommunication (five companies) and life sciences and healthcare (one company). Romania was also represented on the Deloitte list by five banks this year, as well as five insurance companies.
