In August 2016, the volume of construction work increased over the previous month by 1.0 percent, according to data published by the National Institute of Statistics. However, compared to the result for August 2015, the amount of work fell by 5.3 percent.
In terms of the number of buildings underway, the total fell by 7.1 percent in civil engineering, residential buildings dropped 2.8 percent and non-residential buildings took a similar 2.3 percent tumble. On a more positive note, the total volume of construction work over the first eight months of 2016 was up 2.0 percent compared to the same period in 2015.
