Romanian freelance workers earned a total of $16.4m between 2007 and 2012, according to data released by the global online freelancing platform Elance. In terms of overall earnings for jobs from writing, to translations and web page design, Romanian freelancers ranked third in Europe, after Ukraine and Great Britain.
Ukrainian freelancers brought in $38.21m between 2007 and 2012, followed by freelancers in Great Britain, who pulled in $18.11m during that period. Worldwide, Romanian freelancers ranked seventh in terms of earnings, according to Elance. US freelancers posted $166.28m in earnings, followed by India ($165.09m) and Pakistan ($39.89m).
Romanian freelancers are most active in the IT and programming and graphic design and multimedia fields. A Romanian freelancer working in these fields makes on average $15 per hour, according to Elance.
