Romanian residential building permits decreased by 12%

The number of building permits for residential buildings decreased in the first nine months of the year by almost 12 percent, to 34,500 approvals, while in September the decrease accelerated to 20.8 percent compared to the similar period in 2021, according to the National Institute of Statistics. Compared to August, in September 2022 the number of issued authorizations was 4 percent lower.

According to INS data, all regions registered decreases in the period January-September: North-East (-971 authorizations), Bucharest-Ilfov (-878), South-Muntenia (-726), West (-572), South-East ( -427), North-West (-417), South-West Oltenia (-400) and Center (-223). Of the total construction permits for residential buildings, 71.3 percent are for the rural area.
