In a $200m investment, Rompetrol Group plans to expand its network of gas stations in Romania. The company, which is owned by KazMunaiGaz, also plans to expand its operations around the Black Sea by at least 50 percent, said the group’s senior vice president, Azamat Zhangulov.
Over the next three to five years, Rompetrol plans to open 150 new gas stations in Romania, while 200 additional filling stations will be added in Bulgaria, Georgia and the Republic of Moldova, according to Zhangulov.
Rompetrol currently operates 1,000 gas stations across Europe, with 450 in Romania alone. Over the past 10 years, the company has invested about $1.3bn into its Petromidia refinery in the Romanian Black Sea. This year, Rompetrol will invest an additional $100m in the refinery by adding a 5 MW, gas-fired power plant to secure the energy consumption of the Petromidia refinery and make it more efficient.
KazMunaiGaz bought a 75-percent stake in Rompetrol from its former owner, Dinu Patriciu, in 2007. It bought the remaining 25 percent in 2009.
