Ryanair considering flights to US

18 March 2015

Ryanair has transatlantic plans. The low-cost Irish carrier is hoping to start offering flights between Europe and the US within the next four to five years. “It’s dependent on attaining viable long-haul aircraft, and we estimate that’s four to five years away,” a company spokesman told the BBC. “European consumers want lower cost travel to the USA and the same for Americans coming to Europe. We see it as a logical development in the European market.”

The airline confirmed it is in talks with manufacturers about buying long-haul planes. Ryanair added that it would like to offer flights between 12 to 14 European and US cities.

“Ryanair wants to fly across the Atlantic because it’s a money-spinner…if you can get it right,” said the BBC’s transport correspondent, Richard Westcott. But “the long list of companies that have tried and failed to make low-cost long-haul work…shows that it’s easier said than done.”
