Ryanair to expand Italian operations

18 August 2016

Low cost airline Ryanair has ramped up its expansion plans in Italy after the country’s government reversed its plans to raise municipal taxes. Italian PM Matteo Renzi’s about face on the the next tax has been “warmly welcomed” by Ryanair, which also praised a decision to revise airport guidelines in order to give regional airports a “competitive level playing field” against the big international airports in Rome and Milan.

As a result, Ryanair has decided to accellerate its expansion plans into the country in 2017. It now intends to invest USD 1bn into 10 new aircraft, while adding 44 new travel routes, in the hope of acquiring 3 million new passengers annually.
