S. Florida construction starts jump 58% in June

31 July 2017

New information from Dodge Data & Analytics states that construction starts in South Florida rose 58 percent to $1.67 billion in June when compared to the same time frame from last year. The large increase is due in part to significant increase of commercial construction that totaled $1.1 billion last month, up 157 percent year over year. Residential construction was off the pace from last year by 10 percent, falling to $563 million. A downturn in condo condominium schemes has affected the construction business in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. The largest contractors are now focusing their efforts to rental apartments, airport concourses, schools, offices and bridge projects.
