The French building materials producer Saint-Gobain ended the production of mineral wool fiberglass at its factory in Ploiesti as a result of a downturn in the construction sector, as the company has been hit by falling sales and worsening profitability. Production is not expected to be resumed in the immediate future, and 42 company employees will be fired, according to Mediafax.
“The company will continue to produce on the second line of production in Ploiesti, the one manufacturing mineral wool, with a total of 86 employees,” wrote representatives of Saint-Gobain in a press release.
Saint-Gobain Romania has about 1,100 employees and operates 12 production facilities in eight industrial sites located in Brasov, Brăneşti, Calarasi, Ploiesti, Satu-Mare, Tulcea, Turda and Suceava.
