Sale of Avia opens way to vast development in Letňany-Prague 9

29 March 2017

Czechoslovak Group offloaded the bankrupt Avia’s manufacturing plant in Prague 9-Letňany, which it acquired last year from the Indian company Ashok Leyland. The price of the deal was not disclosed. However, Hospodářské noviny write that the owner, Jaroslav Strnad, sold the land for a higher price than what he paid for it. A newly established business called Lemant Finance is the new owner of the Letňany Avia area. The brownfield allows for the development of a new neighborhood for 6,000 people with flats, offices and shops, according to the daily. The mayor of Prague’s Čakovice district, Alexandr Lochman, suggested that the C metro line be extended to service the area in the future. Strnad relocated its automotive production from Letňany to a smaller area in Přelouč, where he plans to produce 170 to 200 cars this year and eventually increase its volume to 1,000 cars annually.
