Sberbank to finance Slovak power plants

11 June 2014

Slovenské elektrárne, Slovakia’s largest power producer and distributor, secured a €870m corporate loan from Russia’s Sberbank, Sberbank CZ and Sberbank Slovensko. The loan will mature in seven and a half years. The head of Sberbank CZ, Vladimír Šolc, said that this is one the largest corporate loans in his bank’s portfolio. The money will be invested into Slovenské elektrárne’s non-nuclear power plants. Slovenské elektrárne operate 35 water power plants, two nuclear plants and two solar power plants. Enel has a 66-percent holding in the company, while the remaining 34 percent is controlled by the state.
