A new science research center will open Thursday in Prague 6-Dejvice. The new pavilion, designed by VPÚ Deco’s Ivan Šorm and built by Syner and Chládek & Tintěra, cost CZK 1bn and is considered one of Europe’s most modern scientific research centers. It is part of the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry. The triangle-shaped building has five above ground floors that will accommodate laboratories, while the heart of the whole facility is located underground. Scientists will be able to conduct theoretic chemistry research in this server room.
The director of the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry, Zdeněk Hostomský, says he hopes the new center will attract top international scientists.
The project was financed from the license fees paid by the US pharmaceutical Gilead Sciences for drugs created by the Czech scientist Antonín Holý that treat AIDS, jaundice and herpes viruses. Another CZK 1bn will go toward the renovation of the whole Institute.
