Serbian foreign tourists drop more than half in Q1 2020

The pandemic has had a catastrophic impact on Serbia’s tourism sector, with the number of nights spent in the country by foreign tourists decreased by 58.3 percent in the first quarter of 2020. The numbers were compiled by country’s Statistical Office, which noted that the number of domestic tourist nights decreased by 37.2 percent for the same period.

Meanwhile, industrial production recorded growth of 4.4 percent (year-on-year) during the year’s first three months, mostly on the back of higher production, manufacturing and mining. Manufacturing grew 6.1 percent year-on-year, with growth recorded in 17 out of 24 sectors, with the largest jump coming from the production of petroleum products, food, pharmaceuticals and electrical equipment. Exports increased by 3.1 percent through the end of March, while imports rose by 7.7 percent.
