Serbian passenger rail service returns after 43-day hiatus

From the onset of the state of emergency due to the virus corona epidemic until the end of April, the Serbian Railways Infrastructure organized a total of 4,363 freight trains, or an average of 95 trains daily. Out these, 1,283 freight trains remained in Serbia, not crossing the Bogojevo border crossing. Serbia Cargo, the state operator of freight rail transport, handled the majority of the shipments (3,451). Six other private operators were responsible for the remainder. They were transporting raw materials needed for the production of essential goods and construction materials. Regular train service began yesterday, 43 days after its suspension.
