Serbia’s Finance Minister Sinisa Mali has unveiled a €5.1bn financial aid package to support the country’s economy and try to maintain employment. He divided the package into a series of measures targeting tax relief, direct subsidies, liquidity support and direct cash payments to citizens. In addition to allowing companies to defer tax payments currently owed and to pay them back later in installments, Mali announced that the state would give the companies the equivalent of three monthly minimum wages (€750) for each of their employees. The government has also proposed that employees at larger companies who are fired as a result of the crisis be paid 50 percent of their wages. Mali also proposed that all Serbian adults receive €100 in direct support to help families overcome the coming hardships.
