Serbian PM’s party overwhelms opposition in parliamentary elections

The Serbian parliamentary elections held on April 24th finished with more than 51 percent of eligible voters casting their vote. Final results of this year’s elections won’t be released until Thursday, according to the Republic Electoral Commission, but preliminary numbers suggest that the Serbian Progressive Party (a conservative grouping) garnered 48.25 percent of the vote.

The party is led by the current prime minister of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic. The Socialists are thought to have been the his party’s closest rival, mustering just 11 percent of the vote, while the Serbian Radical Party may have cleared 8 percent. Two parties, Enough is Enough and the Democratic party, are currently believe to have received around 6 percent.
