Seven local and international companies are vying to build a new hospital in Bratislava. The Slovak Health Ministry is overseeing the €200m tender. Four of the local companies that have submitted bids have close ties with the Smer ruling party, according to the daily SME, including GPN, Agel, Metrostav with InterHealth Canada and Sanigest. Bids were also submitted by Rizzani de Eccher and Pessina Construzioni SPA of Italy as well as the Spanish company Ribera Salud infraestructuras.

The new 880-bed hospital, the first PPP project in Slovakia’s public health system, is set to go up near St Michael’s hospital in the city’s Patrónka district. Construction is expected to cost between €200 and €500m. Completion is scheduled for 2017.
