Short-term apartment rentals making comeback in Athens

3 June 2020

Around 2,000 houses and apartments in central Athens have been removed from short-term rental platforms since the beginning of the year, increasing the supply of real estate available to residents of the country’s capital. Short-term rental occupancy figures have been cut in half from 82 percent last September to just 41 percent in March. However, as early as the middle of May, new bookings at Airbnb and HomeAway in Greek locations rose from 13,054 in the first week of the month to 20,037. Just before the outbreak in February, weekly booking were averaging more than 25,000.
