Siemens targets Polish energy sector

27 June 2012

Polan’ds energy sector has been busy of late, with a total of PLN 60bn in investments planned, reports Puls Biznesu. Energy companies have already announced bids for the construction of new, non-nuclear and non-renewable units that would generate 11 GW of power. “Nearly half of the projects could be delivered,” says Dariusz Oarski from Siemens company, which is hoping to take a piece of the Polish energy business.

The company is submitting bids in most of the tenders now underway to supply steam-gas turbines, though it doubts all the projects will actually be realized immediately. Many investments could be delayed due to the financing problems, claims Dariusz Obarski, the energy department director in Siemens, as such projects are capital-intensive. “The cost of construction of one coal-power unit is PLN 6bn, meaning that only companies with high capital bases like PBG or Enea can afford this type of investment,” says Obarski.
