Signa Holding eyes Kaufhof takeover

3 November 2017

Vienna-based property and retail group Signa Holding GmbH made an unsolicited bid to take over the Kaufhof chain in Germany from Canadian company Hudson’s Bay Company. Signa, which already owns Germany’s Karstadt department store chain, confirmed it had extended an offer without providing any further details. Hudson’s Bay, meanwhile, said the company had received “an incomplete, nonbinding and unsolicited offer with no evidence of financing.” Signa had already tried to purchase Kaufhof two years ago but lost out to Hudson’s Bay, which acquired the chain for €2.83bn in 2015.
