Sikorski left for three-day trip to Berlin

Poland’s foreign minister Radosław Sikorski has started his three-day trip to Berlin where he’s up to meet the German diplomacy chief Guido Westerwelle and foreign ministers of Russia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, Netherlands, Portugal and Italy. Berlin’s talks are to “strengthen democracy in UE” minister Sikorski announced on the first day of his visit. “Poland is in favour of combining the positions of President of the European Commission and European Council President” said Sikorski adding that the person, who will hold the position should be named “in a democratic way”, either by Parliament or “more widely”. At present, the Herman van Rompuy is heading the European Council, while the European Commision is lead by Jose Manuel Barroso.
