Single women are now more likely to be looking to buy flats than single men, according to data from the developer Central Group. The company wrote that 10 years ago, men were its main customers but that the situation turned around as of 2015. Women are interested primarily in smaller flats as they are easier to finance with mortgages. “Women think about the future more and they see owning a flat as a form of financial security,” said Central Group’s executive director Michaela Tomášková. “In addition, property ownership is proof of their economic independence. The number of couples buying apartments has fallen to 18 percent, down from 39 percent in 2009. Czech Statistics Office figures put the number of women living in Prague without a partner at 22 percent, while the number of single men is 17 percent.
