Swedish Skanska UK has won a five-year contract to participate in the construction of the new Crossrail Bond Street Station in London in a joint venture with British builder Costain. Skanska will get €63.7m for the work, while a further €127.6m will go to the joint venture. The order includes delivery of two new ticket halls, platform fitout and mechanical and electrical services. “Contracts worth more than £5bn (€5.8bn) have been awarded to date, providing a much-needed boost to the construction industry and the UK economy,” said Andrew Wolstenholme, Crossrail Chief Executive.
The contract follows an order for Bond Street advance works awarded to the same joint venture two years ago. Work is set to begin in February 2013 and is scheduled to conclude in February 2017, ahead of Crossrail’s opening in 2018. The Crossrail Station is then to be connected to the adjacent tube station, creating a hub that enables interchange between Crossrail and London Underground Services.
