Skanska teamed up with Loughborough University to develop its first lab-based concrete 3D printing technology to a commercially viable scale. The company has been using the 3D printing technology, but with this recent step, Skanska aims to make it a mainstream tool for its supply chain. It’s expected to take 18 months to move the technology from the lab to Skanska’s construction projects. As a result, the time needed to develop architectural components could be reduced from several weeks to just one hour.
“It’s great news for the entire construction industry. The 3D printing technology may revolutionize the development, making the entire investment process far more efficient,” said Jakub Zagórski, sales and marketing director at Skanska Residential Development Poland.
