The plastic car components supplier SKD Bojkovice in southern Moravia fired all 350 of its employees at the end of March. Last month, the company was given time by the regional to reorganize and to look for a strategic investor. But so far, it’s been unable to find anyone to step and assume its CZK 492.5m worth of liabilities. The layoffs are bad news for the town of Bojkovice, whose mayor Petr Viceník said the company had been in poor shape for some time. “At the moment, I don’t have exact numbers about how many of the people laid off are Bojkovice residents so I don’t want to jump to conclusions,” he told the daily Denik. “Luckily, the biggest company here, Moravia, isn’t directly connected to the automobile industry.”
