The Czech automobile sector is continuing its slow return to normality. Škoda Auto is ramping up production to three shifts per day as of May 11 at its plant in Mladá Boleslav, though the one in Vrchlabi will continue to run on just two shifts per day. Škoda had to deal with two of its employees testing positive for the coronavirus last week, but has had the locations used by the employees disinfected and placed them in quarantine. Over the weekend, Škoda extended the warranty period for the owners of cars whose warranties expired between March and May by three months to accommodate customers who were unable to file claims because of the pandemic. Hyundai’s Czech factory has also resumed production after a three-week break that began in the middle of April, however Toyota Peugeot Citroen Automobile has been forced to delay renewing production until May 18, two weeks later than planned. Meanwhile, the Czech bus producer Iveco has finally succeeded in starting up its production lines after being frustrated by disruptions to its supply chain.
