Slovak police arrest developer and mayor over alleged corruption

Slovak detectives have arrested two people in the town of Malacky as part of an anti-corruption raid, reportedly in connection with a development in that town called Severin. Police were unwilling to say who they’d arrested, but released the individuals’. The Slovak press has noticed that one of the pairs of initials matches those of the town’s mayor, while the other matches the name of the owner of the development company alleged to be implicated in the case. “The developer was waiting for the occupancy permit for his apartment building to be issued,” wrote the police. While the project apparently met all the necessary conditions for approval, police claim the developer was expected to use his personal influence to push through the approval process for a city stadium.
