Slovakia has announced a plan to test its entire population in an attempt to take control of the Covid-19 pandemic before it’s too late. The country of 5 million people currently has 844 hospital beds occupied by Covid-19 patients while nearly 100 people have died. On Tuesday, more than 2,000 were newly diagnosed with the disease. Officially, Slovaks are being told that taking the test will be optional, but those who choose not to do so will have to spend 10 days in quarantine. Prime Minister Igor Matovic threatened to fine anyone who broke the quarantine €1,659. The test is to be carried out on all Slovaks over the age of 10 years beginning on October 23. People will be assigned an exact time at which they’re supposed to arrive for testing and where possible the procedure will be carried out outside.
