Slovakia wants to expedite the planning and construction of a new motorway that would connect Bratislava to Vienna. Slovak Transport Minister Ján Počiatek and his Austrian counterpart Alois Stöger discussed the project at their last meeting. The plan is to connect Austria’s S8 motorway to Slovakia’s D4 motorway. However, Austria doesn’t intend to build the artery before 2023, while Bratislava is pushing for its completion by 2020. Počiatek said Bratislava urgently needs another connection to Vienna to divert transit traffic from entering the capital.
