Czech metallurgical companies, the Zetor tractor manufacturer or the Synot group have not yet prepared any special steps due to the threat of a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The companies are monitor the situation and are in contact with partners in Ukraine. For example, the energy company MND has prepared a plan for a conflict to break out. Russia has amassed tens of thousands of troops at Ukraine’s borders in recent months, raising fears among Kiev and the West of attacking Ukraine. Referring to official sources from Washington and Europe, Politico wrote that the Russian invasion could begin on Wednesday, February 16.

The current situation on the ore market has not yet had a significant effect, according to Petra Macková Jurásková, spokeswoman for Třinecké železárny. “We have secured ore supplies and are monitoring the situation and waiting for further developments,” she said. The spokesperson did not want to state the exact volumes of imports from Ukraine for commercial reasons.

The Liberty Ostrava smelter has not even experienced any problems so far. “The current method of supply still works without a problem. However, we are working to strengthen our supply chain,” said Barbora Černá Dvořáková, spokeswoman for the smelter.

The situation is also closely monitored by Brno’s Zetor, which supplies dozens of tractors to Ukraine each year and considers the local market to be interesting in the future. “We are in constant contact with our partner in Ukraine,” said company spokesman Dominik Moser. At the moment, according to him, the threat of conflict has no impact on the company. “For example, today begins a trade fair focused on agricultural technology, in which our partner with Zetor tractors participates,” he added.

Even the Hodonín-based company MND, which, among other things, mines gas in Ukraine, has not yet experienced any problems. “All our activities are in western Ukraine, in the Lviv region. Where we operate, there is currently calm and normal operation,” said company spokeswoman Dana Dvorakova. Nevertheless, the company prepared for possible difficulties. “As for the Ukrainian employees and our office, we have prepared a plan in case of an outbreak of military conflict,” the spokeswoman added.
