Smichov City construction to begin in April

3 March 2020

Work on Sekyra Group’s Smichov City project in Prague 5 could get underway within a month, according to an article in Hospodářské noviny. The project, which has been nearly 20 years in preparation, will create an entirely new neighborhood covering 22 ha of land between Smichov train station and what is currently the Na Knižeci bus station. The first phase involves the construction of three new city blocks, including 450 flats, 35,000 sqm of office space within roughly two years. The second phase will see another 140,000 sqm of space build at a cost of around CZK 3.5bn including a new campus for Česká spořitelna. The developer is still securing planning for the project’s second phase, but HN writes that this seems a certainty, as the city is using Sekyra Group’s openness to dialogue as a model for other developers to follow. The Smichov train station will be rebuilt at the same time to create a new transport hub linking trains, commuter trains, trams and the metro.
