Social Democracy (SOCDEM, formerly ČSSD) has offered for sale an apartment building in the historic centre of Olomouc that still houses the leadership of the party’s regional organisation. The three-storey property, registered on the Czech Republic’s list of immovable cultural monuments, will be sold by auction, with a minimum price of nearly CZK 20 million. Eva Rozsypalová from the real estate agency Re-max, which is responsible for the sale of the house.
The regional chairman of SOCDEM, Ladislav Hynek, said today that the party is still using part of the house in Panská Street, but its operation is expensive and maintenance also costs something. SOCDEM will therefore sell the property. The regional organisation has not yet decided where it will then have its headquarters. “We will deal with it when it comes,” Hynek noted.
The former SOCDEM acquired ownership of the historic house in the neighbourhood of the central square about 20 years ago. “We have been offering this property to the public since the beginning of November. We are currently inviting interested parties to view it, and those who show serious interest will be informed about the conditions for participating in the auction,” SOCDEM spokesman Jan Nováček told the Olomouc daily.
The three-storey building has 531 sqm of office space. “One of the main bonuses of this property is the possibility of renting the space. Its convenient location in the centre of Olomouc makes this property attractive for various entrepreneurs and companies looking for a strategic location for their business,” said Re-max.
The former ruling party, which dropped out of the lower house in the last elections, is also selling properties in Ústí nad Labem, Znojmo, Breclav, České Budějovice, Rychnov nad Kněžnou, Jihlava and Karlovy Vary. He plans to use the proceeds from the sale to finance his upcoming election campaign worth more than CZK 100 million. He wants to raise the rest of the money for the campaign through better management of profitable assets. It also hopes for sponsorship and has increased membership fees.
