Social Democrats could lose two palaces in Prague

6 January 2017

Czech coalition party Social Democrats (ČSSD) could lose its ownership rights of two palaces in the Prague city center if it does not pay off a CZK 337m debt to the late lawyer Zdeněk Altner. The move, being handled by Přerov executor Lukáš Jícha, prevents ČSSD from managing Lidový dům and the neighboring Lannův palace. The party also cannot collect rent from tenants at both properties. Lannův palace is leased to Finep, which has its headquarters there.

Altner represented ČSSD in a lawsuit over its party headquarters: Lidový dům palace on Hybernská street in Prague 1. Altner was to get 10 percent of the value of the property he won for ČSSD in 1997. That amount has since increased due to penalties.
