Prague city assembly rejected a draft measure that would block a residential project Finep wants to develop at Vidoule park in Prague 5. Miloslav Ludvík, a member of the Social Democrats who is running for mayor, has attacked the project, arguing that the development would destroy a valuable nature preserve in the city. The project has stirred up strong controversy. Prague’s current mayor, Tomáš Hudeček, criticized the plans when he was deputy mayor, but later changed his mind. The city assembly approved a change to the master plan for the area in May. In the run-up to the October elections, the Social Democrats are calling for a halt to all large development projects in Prague, including the redevelopment of the Masaryk, Žižkov and Bubny railway stations, as well as projects at Rohan island, Trojmezí and Džbán.
