Socialists rip Fidesz over real estate investments

25 August 2014

The ruling Fidesz party has failed the city of Budapest, says the opposition Socialists’ Budapest boss, by not coming through on funding for the upgrade of the city’s third metro line. Agnes Kunhalmi charged that rather than ensuring that key infrastructure investments are made in the capital, the government focused instead on more prestigious investment projects. The recent proposal to upgrade the metro merely placed responsibility on leading the investment on the shoulders of the city’s mayor, but failed to make any specific financial arrangements. The attack comes on the heels of real estate investments by Hungary’s National Bank in which it acquired a luxury hotel, a prime office building and other assets.
