Sonae Capital SGPS SA, a Portugal based holding company that manages a diversified portfolio of businesses made a loss of €5.4m in Q1 2020, an increase of 6.5 percent compared to the same period last year. In the energy sector, the company’s turnover increased to €80.5m, five times more than €14m it made for the same period in 2019.

Turnover in the fitness sector rose to €10.7m thanks to increasing membership numbers, which hit 105,000. Hotel revenues fell 23.8 percent to €2.3m, but the company’s CEO Miguel Gil Mata says the sector will be hit more severely in the second quarter, due to the “slowdown in the tourist flow” and the closure of hotel units. The company is active in tourism, energy, industrial engineering and real estate.
