Sorin Oprescu re-elected Bucharest mayor

Sorin Oprescu won a second mandate as mayor of Bucharest after the local elections on Sunday, June 10, according to the exit polls at the end of the vote. Oprescu got between 64 and 66 percent of the votes, according to three different exit polls created by CCSB, IRES and CURS.

The candidate of the Democratic Liberal Party, Silviu Prigoana, came second, with around 15 – 17 percent of the votes.

Independent candidate Nicusor Dan, who rallied the support of many civil society organizations, came third, with 6 – 8 percent of the votes.

Mayors changed in two of the six districts of Bucharest. Robert Negoita outranked Liviu Negoita in the third district, while Rares Manescu for more votes than Cristian Poteras in District 6. Andrei Chiliman, Neculai Ontanu, Cristian Popescu and Marian Vanghelie all kept their seats at the helm of the district city halls, according to exit polls.

The final results of the elections are expected to be released today.
